Football
La Pasión
You find them in every corner of any Latin American city, from the shanty towns of Brazil to the humble working class barrios of Buenos Aires or Montevideo. Every bit of wasteland becomes a football pitch on weekends, when the local kids can play their fantasies away. I have witnessed native Ecuadoreans practising their skills at 12,000ft high in their Andean villages, and Panamanians defying the heat of the rain forest to play under a tropical downpour. I also felt the huge Maracana stadium in Rio vibrate to a capacity crowd, the thundering roar of fireworks and chants deafening the air, during a Brazilian cup final.
La Pasión is a touring exhibition
available for hire. It has been shown at the Institute for Contemporary
Arts (ICA) and the Virgin Megastore gallery in London and in sports
centres and football stadiums in Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro and
Buenos Aires ![]()
