Chile's 9/11

The 11th of September 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the brutal military coup that triggered a reign of terror where thousands of people were tortured, killed and 'disappeared' at the hands of the authorities in Chile. I covered the resistance against the Pinochet regime in the 1980s for the Guardian, the Observer and other publications and was commissioned by Amnesty International to produce two touring exhibitions of my images for their campaigning work supporting the victims of the regime. As the anniversary approaches, Amnesty is calling on the Chilean and international authorities to ensure that all those responsible for the human rights violations are finally brought to justice and be tried for their crimes.
